Customer Update: NCC Changes

14 May 2019

Customers are advised that from 1 May 2019, an important National Construction Code amendment comes into effect for all structures. This includes sheds, built in wind regions A and B, in accordance with AS/NZS1170.2-2011.

As part of these important changes, we’re ready to assist you so you can make informed choices about what this means for you and your product selection. Depending on your needs, we have a range of suitably-rated products available to meet the NCC amendments. This includes Taurean’s NovaTaur commercial roller door (N2 rating up to 3,090mm wide) and Pr1me Series WindLock roller door range (N3 rating up to 5,100mm wide).

The intent of the amendment is to help make buildings safer for Australians. The amendment requires that structures such as sheds designed to this Standard of all sizes are built to withstand higher internal pressure if the door or window in the dominant openings are not certified for the applied wind pressure.

Specifically, the change relates to Section 5.3.2.2 of AS/NZS1170.2 and says:

“The full area of doors, including large access doors (e.g. roller doors) and windows that are normally closed, shall be considered to be openings, unless they are demonstrated to be capable of resisting the applied wind pressures.”
